Bach at Leipzig

Bach at Leipzig

Writers Theatre
325 Tudor Court Glencoe

Bach at Leipzig is a truly original and immensely engaging play by one of the nation's foremost young playwrights, Itamar Moses. Moses is currently at work on commissions for Playwrights Horizons, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, The Wilma Theatre and Manhattan Theatre Club. His deft and witty play draws its inspiration from historical events but takes much delight in its fictional flights of fancy. It is set in Germany 1722. At the Thomaskirche, the prestigious and lucrative post of organist has suddenly become available. Seven musicians are invited to apply for the much sought after job. Insecurities, shortfalls of talent and wildly clashing ideologies soon collide, creating marvelously farcical complication in a wild and witty exploration of the nature of music, ambition and art.
