Idle Muse Theatre Company is seeking submissions for The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which will be performed at The Edge Off Broadway theater in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago.

Notions of class, gender, intimacy and violence all collide in this new adaptation of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Inspired by the original novella of the same name by Robert Louis Stevenson, Dr. Henri Jekyll seeks to survive in Victorian England, but finds the cards heavily stacked against her: her father gone and her professional prospects sabotaged, she finds herself trapped and abandoned. Forced to turn inward for solace, she manifests her own savior in Mr. Edward Hyde...but finds the road to salvation is paved with ruin.

Dr. Henri JEKYLL: 30s - 50s, well-made woman. She bears every sign of intellect and kindness. Stage combat experience required. This character enacts violence, suicide, and intimacy with the characters Hyde and Utterson. Intimacy will involve kissing Hyde and Utterson, implied simulated sex with Hyde, and sensual touching with 2 partners (Hyde and Utterson) at once.

Mr. Edward HYDE: 30s - 50s A smooth-faced man. He is not deformed, but sight of him causes one to ponder what may be missing from him. Stage combat experience required. This character enacts violence and intimacy with the characters Jekyll and Utterson. Intimacy will involve kissing Jekyll, implied simulated sex with Jekyll, and sensual touching with 2 partners (Jekyll and Utterson) at once.

Gabriel John UTTERSON: 30s - 50s, a handsome man of a well-measured lifestyle. A lawyer, and thoroughly "good" person. Stage combat experience required This character enacts intimacy with the characters Jekyll and Hyde. Intimacy will involve kissing Jekyll and sensual touching with 2 partners (Jekyll and Utterson) at once.

Dr. Hastie LANYON: 30s - 50s, hearty, red-faced doctor, with prematurely white hair, and a boisterous, and decided manner. Stage combat experience required

Richard ENFIELD: 30s - 50s, an inspector who works with Utterson.

POOLE: 40s-050s, the Jekyll House butler. Will be doubled with CAREW. Stage combat experience required

Sir Danvers CAREW: 40s-50s, a member of Parliament. Will be doubled with POOLE. Stage combat experience required

MAID: Lanyon's housekeeper. 20s - 30s

Pay: Base stipend of $100 + shareholder model
