About Face Youth Theatre is now accepting new ensemble members for our 2021-2022 Season. No theatre experience is necessary. The program is free of charge to LGBTQIA+ and allied youth 12-24 years old.
AFYT is theatre training, social justice activism, leadership development, and queer empowerment all wrapped up in one package! Ensemble members will meet and create with other queer youth from around the city, work with theatre artists and local activists, learn about LGBTQIA+ history, and devise and perform an original theatre production.
This Fall we will be working online and learning about storytelling through audio drama. If you are interested in art as activism, this ensemble is for you.
The Fall workshop series runs online for 8 Saturdays starting October 2 and ending November 20th from noon to 3pm CST. Spring and Summer calendars TBA.
This "audition" is not meant to decide whether or not you are "good enough." No one is being judged on talent or ability. This is simply an opportunity for us to get a sense of who you are and your story. We can't wait to learn more about you. Here's what you need to prepare:
We know that artists and makers come in all forms, so for your audition submission, we invite you to please respond to the following prompt whatever manner or medium best expresses you:
"When I think of home, I think of..."
Your submission can take any form that excites you. Are you an actor? Maybe you want to film an original monologue or scene. A visual artist? Perhaps you make a new painting or sketch and submit a photo of it. Musicians, you might create an original song and submit a recording. Or, any other brilliant ideas you might have! You may also simply record yourself answering the prompt and submit that, if it feels like the best way to express yourself. Whatever form your audition takes, it just wants to be as YOU as possible. Have fun and show us who you are!
Pay: $50 for each workshop series (Fall and Spring); $500 for the summer show
