Improv Playhouse Theatre for Young Audiences is seeking actors for upcoming production of The Diary of Anne Frank. In this essential junior high reading, students learn about the hardships and struggles faced by those persecuted during World War II. Now your students have the opportunity to see this story brought to life! Professional actors tell the story of the Frank family in this moving performance utilizing the young girls own words. Discover what it was like for this family to live a life of fear and to always hope for a better tomorrow. Improv Playhouse Theatre for Young Audiences is committed to engaging students and enhancing communities through the performing arts. We strive to highlight the importance of imaginative thinking, giving children the opportunity to solve problems on their own volition. Our entertaining and educational shows bring well-known stories to life to teach children valuable life lessons.

Auditions will be held in Improv Playhouse's rehearsal space in the basement of The Highland Park Community House at 1991 Sheridan Rd, Highland Park, IL 60035. The Highland Park Community House is accessible via the UP-N Metra line. It is a short 10-minute walk from the station in the heart of downtown Highland Park. It is also easily accessible via the Edens Expressway.

Seeking:
Anne Frank: Female identifying. Early-mid teens 13-15 years old. Talkative, hopeful, strong willed, persistent.

Margot Frank: Anne's sister. Female identifying. Mid-late teens 16-19. Quiet, polite, studious, reserved.

Mr. Otto Frank: Anne's father. Male identifying. 30-40s. Kind soul, hard worker, loving father, protector and peacemaker.

Mrs. Edith Frank: Anne's mother. Female identifying. 30s-40s. Estranged relationship with Anne. Seen as unsympathetic and sarcastic by Anne

Mr. Hermann van Daan: Male identifying. Family friend of the Frank's. 30s-40s. Selfish, sarcastic, often aggressive towards his son and wife.

Mrs. Petronella van Daan: Female identifying. 30s-40s. Mr. van Daan's wife. Supportive of their son Peter. Kind. Defensive and loyal to her husband.

Peter van Daan: Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan's son. Male identifying. Mid-late teens 15-18 years old. Reserved, protective, kind heart, frustrated easily.

Miep Gies: Female identifying. Helper to the people in the annex. 30s-40s. Kind hearted, peaceful, hopeful. Provides news and support for all that live in the secret annex.

Mr. Albert Dussel: Male identifying. 30s-40s. Former dentist. Brought to the bunker by Miep. Selfish, rude, aggressive. Shares a room with Anne much to both of their discomfort and anger.

Time Commitment:

The rehearsal schedule will be determined based on cast availability, however rehearsals will likely take place four times a week between the hours of 10:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M. The show will be performed in April for school groups and are being booked on a rolling basis. Currently the performance schedule is as follows. Tuesday April 17th 10:00 A.M., Thursday April 19th 10:00 A.M., Monday April 23rd 10:00 A.M.

Please prepare a 1-2 minute dramatic monologue that you think is suited to part you are most interested in being considered for. Cold reading from the script.
