After a nearly year-long hiatus, Blunt Objects Theatre is returning to the Chicago theatre scene with a Halloween-themed play reading festival: Bacchanalia 2014!
The plays include:
Soda Town - an alienated soda jerk finds revenge on a group of youths that frequent his establishment to bully him in this play by Bill Daniel
Week - Three twentysomethings plod through their last week of existence in this apocalyptic comedy by Barry Eitel
O Cult - A cult middle manager gently disciplines a well-meaning acolyte written by Jared McDaris
The concept of Bacchanalias go back to ancient times, when the god Bacchus was honored by mere humans by indulging the pagan deity's two favorite things: Alcohol and Theatre. Recognizing that these two fine things have been intertwined through the generations, Blunt Objects Theatre is returning to the roots of live performance. For our new season, we will be celebrating the core of what makes theatre relevant by reveling in the company of old friends and new at one of our favorite watering holes. As an added bonus, the play readings all revolve around the wonderfully spooky ambiance of the October season!
Rehearsals will be from 8-10 pm on September 24 and October 1 at
Lilly's. Please do not audition if you are unavailable for both of
those days and times.
Performances are on Monday October 6 and Wednesday October 8th at
Lilly's Bar, 8pm both nights with dramatic readings of horrifically
excellent plays befitting of the season, followed by beautiful music
from local artists. It will be an October romp full of great art,
great friends, and everyone's favorite Bacchanalian treat: boozy
booze.
Auditions will be open call on September 10 from 8pm-10pm on the second floor of Lilly's at 2515 N Lincoln Ave. Please provide a headshot and resume at your audition. Prepare a dramatic reading (script in-hand) up to 2 minutes in length from either a play or piece of literature. Your selection does not need to be horror-themed for the audition. You may be asked to do a cold read from one of the scripts.
