Parker Players
Bloomsday

Pay: Stipend

Description:

Thirty-five years after a brief but unforgettable encounter in Dublin, Robert returns to Ireland in search of Cait, the young woman who changed the course of his life.

Moving fluidly between past and present, Bloomsday brings Robert and Cait face-to-face with their younger selves, Robbie and Caithleen, as one day from long ago unfolds again. Inspired by James Joyce?s Ulysses, Steven Dietz?s time-bending love story explores memory, regret, missed chances, and the tantalizing question: If we could go back, would we choose differently?

Funny, romantic, and wistful, Bloomsday is a four-person play about the choices we make and the lives that grow out of them.

SEEKING

CAITHLEEN ? 20s | Irish
High-spirited, mercurial, quick-witted, and alive to possibility. Caithleen wears a mask of certainty even as she broils underneath with insecurity. Bold and impulsive one moment, vulnerable the next. Romantic without being sentimental, with an adventurous spirit and an intensity that draws Robbie into her world.

CAIT ? 50s?60s | Irish
Caithleen thirty-five years later. Cait has found some peace with herself and the life she has lived, but she has not been quashed by it. The spark, humor, intelligence, and unpredictability of the young Caithleen remain very much present. She carries both the wisdom of age and the lingering ache of what might have been.

ROBBIE ? 20s | American
High-spirited, adventurous, eager, free, and playful. Robbie is intelligent and curious, with an openness that makes his connection with Caithleen immediate and exhilarating. There are already hints of the more guarded man he will become, but at 20, possibility still outweighs regret.

ROBERT ? 50s?60s | American ? ROLE CAST
The role of Robert has been cast. We are seeking an understudy for this role.
