The Mixtape New Works Festival Vol. 2 is a developmental project featuring 4 new musicals, or plays with music, that will be work-shopped and performed as stage readings in May 2026. The festival is to support the development of new musically inspired storytelling from Chicago artists.
We are currently accepting submissions from Directors, Actors, Music Directors, Dramaturgs, and Stage Managers to help support these pieces in their development.
Pieces are still being reviewed, therefore we do not have a more comprehensive breakdown for actors/roles needed. This call is primarily to build a pool of individuals interested in developing new musicals and new plays with music through this festival. Once the pieces have been selected, we will contact parties from this submission for further conversations or audition specific materials if necessary.
Pay: Stipend - $50
Rehearsals will depend on the number of pieces an artist is a part of, and which piece the artist is a part of. Each piece will have approximately 20 hours of rehearsal time, generally on weeknights from 6:30-10:00 PM. Rehearsals will be in April and May.
Each selected piece will be performed in a one night public staged reading at Uncommon Ground in Lakeview on one of the following Wednesday evenings, May 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th.
