Nonsense Productions is seeking a non-equity stage manager for an Original Practices production of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" in March of 2026.
Original Practices is a technique in which historical performance practice is used to inform and shape modern theatre execution. For our production, that means pulling several conditions and truths from Shakespeare's time and implementing them in our production process. These include (but are not limited to) an expedited rehearsal process of one week, an emphasis on direct address and audience interaction, usage of cue scripts by actors, and a collaborative staging process without the role of a true modern director. Instead, an actor-manager will guide rehearsals, but performers will be largely responsible for creating the final stage product.
The stage manager's role will include creating and sending daily rehearsal emails to actors, being present at all rehearsals, managing rehearsal agenda, running the sound and light board during technical rehearsal and performances (minimal need), tracking props, and sending rehearsal and performance reports.
Compensation
A $100 stipend will be provided.
About Nonsense:
In an increasingly illogical world, where even our own choices seem to confound our better judgment, we choose to lean in. Through theatre that explores, emphasizes, and even exaggerates the nonsense in our lives, Nonsense Productions strives to understand the seemingly absurd ways through which we engage with the world around us, and - for better or worse - how it engages with us. Through text subversion, artist agency, and exploration of theme and character, we strive to create art that will leave the audience embracing the nonsense of the world around them.
