Open Space Arts
Choreographer

Pay: Stipend

Description:

Open Space Arts seeks a Choreographer to create and stage one country line dance number for the American premiere of MY LIFE AS A COWBOY by Hugo Timbrell-a funny, heartfelt queer coming-of-age play about a 17-year-old Croydon boy who dreams of reinventing himself as a Country Western dancer, pulling his best friend and fellow lifeguard into a wild performance at Croydon People's Day.

This is an intimate, three-actor production featuring movement, line dancing, and some live music (guitar/singing).
The Choreographer will be responsible for developing a single featured country line dance, teaching it to the cast, and ensuring it integrates smoothly into the storytelling and comedic rhythm of the show.

A $300 stipend will be provided.

Open Space Arts produces bold, intimate LGBTQ+ theater with small casts and big resonance. Past productions include Scandalous Boy, Mr. Parker, Mercy Killing, Gangsta Baby, Light Switch, and Dorian. MY LIFE AS A COWBOY offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a brand-new queer play in its American premiere, working within a supportive storefront environment.

Time Commitment:

Run Dates: January 23 - February 8, 2026
Showtimes: Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30 PM; Sundays at 2:00 PM
Rehearsals: Begin early January 2026 (evenings/weekends; exact schedule set with the creative team).
Choreographer is expected to attend select rehearsals to teach, refine, and set the dance number.
