Edge of the Wood Theatre, located in Chicago's Edgebrook neighborhood on the northwest side, announces auditions for Much Ado About Nothing on Wednesday, December 3 from 7-9pm and Saturday, December 6 from 1-3pm. Callbacks on December 11. Auditions will be held in the theatre space at the Edgebrook Community Church, 6736 N Loleta Avenue, Chicago.
The production will be directed by Herb Metzler. Play is set in 1945 in upstate NY with strong emphasis on American dialect, period slang, and rapid delivery - no British accents. Comfort with stage kissing, minor violence. Dance skills, especially in swing/big band a big plus. Impressions of Golden Age Hollywood stars are welcome. Seeking 15-18 dynamic performers (we welcome and encourage artists of all races, ethnicities, ages, body types, and gender identities) for ALL ROLES.
Pay rate: $200 stipend for principal actors, $100-$150 stipend for ensemble and understudies (with guaranteed performance).
First rehearsal is February 9. Rehearsals run Monday-Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons. The show runs March 27-April 12, 2026.
A Shakespearean monologue, no more than 90 seconds, which highlights your skill at playing a comic character, either subtly or broadly.
