"Star Drek 2240" is a musical parody that reimagines the biblical Book of Esther in a futuristic, sci-fi setting. It humorously incorporates science fiction themes, tropes, and characters to tell the story of Esther's journey: winning a beauty contest, marrying the King, and ultimately saving her people from the malevolent vizier Haman.
The 90-minute play will teach the story of the Megillah onboard the Starship Shushan - which hails from Planet Persia. The show includes historical and futuristic characters that parody sci-fi franchises like Star Trek, Star Wars, Lost in Space, Flash Gordon and more. There will be many jokes and references to Jewish culture alongside geeky and cultural easter eggs.
The regular cast of historical characters like Ahasuerus, Queen Vashti, Mordechai, Esther and (Darth) Haman make their expected return alongside newly created sci-fi spoofs of Captain Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura, Worf, Dale Arden, C3P-0Y and more!
The performance includes fun solo and ensemble songs that have been uniquely written and arranged for this show. These include solo song parodies of "Hey, Big Spender", "Rocket Man", "Anticipation," "Maybe This Time," and "Sunshine of My Life". Some ensemble numbers include "Magic to Do", "Rock Around the Clock", and "Step in Time" parodies. Music (and some lyrics) can be dynamically adjusted based upon the individuals we cast in the show.
The show includes dance choreography for ensemble, small groups and solo performances that will strive to bring out the best of everyone's abilities.
