The Story Theatre is holding auditions for Pot Girls by Paul Michael Thomson.
Directed by Ayanna Bria Bakari.
Pay: $1,376 stipend
As part of our goal of working towards paying artists a living wage, we calculated this compensation at a rate of $16/hr for 56 hours of rehearsal + $160/week of tech and performances for 3 weeks (possible 4th week extension will be paid an additional $160). All artists (from producers to understudies to stage managers to designers) will be paid at this same hourly rate, and stipends will not shift even if more or less hours are used in the process of this production. We recognize that $1,376 is still not a living wage, and we are working to increase pay each season at The Story!
Synopsi
Pot Girls is a smoky riff on Caryl Churchill's Top Girls that is a part of The Story's Season V.
What is the duty of the artist? Well, tonight, her only duty is to get stoned and celebrate!! Caryl is getting her first big West End production with a smart, sexy new play that centers women in the workplace. Her nearest and dearest friends-an assortment of feminist writers from throughout space and time-come to her London flat to kiki and drink grasshoppers. (Did I mention it's 1982?) But when the party's over and Caryl is presented with the ways her new play may be causing harm, she must decide whether or not she'll learn from history or else abdicate her responsibility altogether. What is the role of critique in creation? Can we judge the artist's politics by the artwork's problems? And is any of our art really activism?
