Life Is A Queer Cabaret

Pay: % of Ticket Sales

Description:

Seeking a diverse cast of singers AND AN ACCOMPANIST for the third installment of our one-night only, queer musical theatre cabaret! Let's take a night to celebrate and dissect the characters and songs that aren't usually seen through a queer lens.

Without changing anything in the text itself (pronouns, description, action, etc), how does an identity change the way an audience engages with a character? What does it mean for Cabaret's Emcee to be played by a woman? For Jack Kelly to be queer? For Audrey or Seymour to be played by trans actors? Identities hold significance, and with a backlog of many cis, often straight or straight-assumed characters, there is value in exploring and changing the narrative. Whether it be for a nuanced dramatic effect or a comedic one, we want to see musical theatre gender-fuckery (and beyond) at play!

We hope to have an accompanist for the cabaret, so tracks and sheet music will both be available options when selecting music for the show!

The selected accompanist will be allowed to sing in the show as well, if they have any interest. The accompanist will not be expected to learn more than half of the songs for the cabaret (roughly 9 in all), and will be given the final say on what music is accompanied and what is a track. The accompanist is not expected to learn anything more than the chords of each song.
