The production will run for three weeks at Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theater from April 19 through May 10, 2026. The Broadway-bound show represents a homecoming for the Chicago native who grew up in the city's Lakeview neighborhood.
A Personal Journey Through Music and Memory
Hunt describes his 85-minute show as an autobiographical journey exploring his complicated relationship with his mother, a childhood shaped by The Beatles, and the surreal experience of meeting Paul McCartney after achieving fame through "Ted Lasso." The show blends humor with heartfelt storytelling, examining how family shapes us and how music provides solace during difficult times."I'm proud to be from Chicago," Hunt said. "Performing in my hometown is a joy in any circumstance, but particularly with this show, which has so much Chicago in it. I consider Steppenwolf to be holy ground, and the chance to perform on that stage is an honor and a privilege."
The production follows a sold-out run at Manhattan's Soho Playhouse and represents an evolution from an earlier workshop version presented at the Hollywood Fringe Festival.
From Chicago Improv to International Success
Best known as Coach Beard on "Ted Lasso," Hunt's path to television success began in Chicago's comedy scene before taking him to Amsterdam's Boom Chicago, where he performed alongside future stars including Jason Sudeikis, Seth Meyers, and Jordan Peele. His previous solo show about that experience, "Five Years in Amsterdam," played venues from the Edinburgh Fringe to Second City.Hunt's theatrical work has earned him two Ovation Award nominations in Los Angeles, with one win for Best Actor in a Musical. His plays "Absolutely Filthy" and "The Art Couple" both enjoyed sold-out LA runs.
Currently shooting Season 4 of "Ted Lasso," Hunt continues to balance his television success with his passion for live theater. The show's first two seasons won consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Comedy Series, along with a Peabody Award and numerous other honors.
