"...This is a production that respects the zest of this pre-Broadway material, with its racy double-entendres, absurd plot twists, shamelessly exportable songs (with lyrics carefully planned to work out of context) and an overall self-confidence that suggested the world was shrinking, money was to be made and love was something you could go out and grab all by yourself. All of that still is true: Not to be missed is the show that makes you feel that way. Go ahead. Leave Elmhurst or Wheaton, Naperville or Countryside for a few hours, gussy up and have a dirty old martini in our surprisingly clean town."

"...Just step right onto the deck of the sleekest of all possible Art Deco-style, trans-Atlantic ocean liners. And rest assured that the entertainment will set you happily bobbing for a full two hours and more. Dreamed up by the likes of Cole Porter and a full crew of writers (from P.G. Wodehouse & Guy Bolton, and Howard Lindsay & Russel Crouse, to their latter-day “polishers,” Timothy Crouse & John Weidman), it has now been set in motion at top speed by Kathleen Marshall, a director and choreographer who knows exactly how to stoke the engines of an entirely zany Broadway musical classic. And no, they don’t make musicals like this one anymore. But they sure do know how to revive the best of the vintage ones with extraordinary panache. This is the most sensational touring company to work a Chicago stage in a very long time."

"...So whatever kind of day your having in this crazy world we live in, for the next few weeks why don't you all weigh anchor and settle into your cabin at the Cadillac Palace where for two hours all your troubles will be forgotten. You will have the most DE-LOVELY time of your life."

"...Most marvelous, more than the ship's boilers Marshall's pile-driving choreography powers the go-for-broke evangelical excess of "Blow, Gabriel, Blow," the frenzied leave-taking of "Bon Voyage," and the title number's intricate abandon. You'll get a kick out of this."

"...This tight, well-staged show is an eye-popping, toe-tapping spectacle filled with rich humor, terrific dancing (especially the tap numbers like "Anything Goes"). But it is the charming performance by Rachel York that anchors this mist enjoyable show. This show is a lesson for young aspiring writers and producers as how to thoroughly win audience approval-just find witty and smart songs and put them in wacky and totally humorous situations filled with strong voices and zestful dancing (and , of course, use melodic tap numbers)."

"... I see a lot of musicals, and this week, many of the old ones, the classics, one might say, thank heaven! While I enjoy the new style of writing and even some of the “louder” music, there is nothing like a “South Pacific” or a “Pal Joey” or of course, a true classic, “Anything Goes”, now on the stage of The Cadillac Palace Theatre as part of this season’s Broadway In Chicago series. Just think, this is a 1934 musical over 70 years ago, and the songs in this play are just as vibrant today as they were back then. With music and Lyrics by Cole Porter and a book ( original) by P.G.Wodehouse & Guy Bolton, with Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, this was a sure hit. For its revival, Timothy Crouse and John Weideman made some modifications, but this play, despite a silly story, is designed to bring pleasure to your eyes and ears and a big smile to your face. You will also feel like you want to dance out of the theater, your spirits will be so high!"

"...In an era that worships celebrities from every bizarre walk of life, the subplot of this musical doesn't feel all that old-fashioned or far-fetched. The three love stories (and not just between the young'uns either) delightfully play out to the final moments of the show. So of course, by the finale everyone lives happily ever after, which obviously only happens aboard an Art Deco cruise ship overflowing with debutantes, dancing and dry martinis."

"...Anything Goes is one of those shows that never takes itself too seriously. It isn't afraid to get a little bawdy and bend the rules -- but it always comes out one top, full of class, champagne bubbles and loads of style."

"...There is much comic confusion involving mistaken identities and the typical lovers' spats before everyone gets paired off satisfactorily (except for the freelancing Erma) in time for the big finale. The book is filled with corny jokes and sight gags, many of them actually funny, plus one-dimensional characters and double entendres that make the head spin. But the storyline never makes claims of Chekhovian realism and spectators are advised to let the broad comedy just wash over them. There is always a fresh Porter hit just around the narrative corner. My favorite is "You're the Top," a catalogue song belted out by Reno and Billy that could have cheerfully gone on forever and provides a master class in literate and hilarious rhyming."
