"...Brisk, breezy and at times laugh-out-loud funny, Javerbaum’s three-hander is dominated by the deity who is manifesting as the disarming Alex Weisman (who, as God gleefully points out, is a two-time Jeff Award-winner and Broadway veteran)."

"...David Javerbaum's comic one-act, about God and his mysterious ways, is a delightfully contradictory show, at once a send-up of shallow TV values, a parody of bad old-old-time religion (now, sadly, making a comeback) and a witty, intelligent exegesis of the Bible and the crazy, unpredictable, but oddly beguiling ways of the Old Testament deity. At least that's how Alex Weisman plays Him-mercurial, seductive, charming, easily angered, one minute amusing us with sweet comic one-liners, the next earning big laughs with sharp-tongued cutting remarks. "...The current production is “An Act of God” which is sort of a one-God show that is God, himself ( or does God have a gender) giving us some insight into hos it all came to be. This role is played to perfection by Alex Weisman, who we watched grow as an actor here in Chicago ( winner of two Jeff Awards, which he brings up, twice) and is always a pleasure to watch onstage."

"...The success of the production, as it was on Broadway, with Jim Parsons in the title role and eventually replaced by Sean Hays, requires a topnotch comic actor. In this, what is virtually a one-man show, Director Keira Fromm is extremely fortunate to have talented Alex Weisman returning from NYC to play God. Although Mr. Weisman seems to have been directed to play the part with a fiercely frivolous and smart-alecky flair, and to deliver his rapid-fire, but well-enunciated lines with frightening forcefulness, the talented young actor succeeds as the spirited, Supreme Being."

"...God himself is the headliner at the Copley Theatre (part of the Paramount) in Aurora, appearing with the archangels Michael and Gabriel. Well, it’s actor Alex Weisman playing God, in David Javerbaum’s deliciously satirical dissection of religion called An Act of God, and the easily offended should simply stay at home. This one is not for you (though you might just be the ones it is designed for)."

"...The play's primary strength lies in its comedic writing, no surprise given Javerbaum's background as the head writer for The Daily Show. The dialogue is packed with puns, irreverent jokes, and witty one-liners that poke fun at religious doctrines and modern cultural phenomena. Weisman, as the incarnation of God, delivers these lines with charm and timing, managing to keep the audience entertained through sheer charisma. However, some of the humor-like dated pop culture references, cliched refutations of old saw Evangelical talking-points, and just overall trying too hard to tell us how gay and edgy it is, fall rather flat."

"...The production is 80 minutes and no intermission. As we know, religion is a very personal matter. This play may not be for everyone. It will definitely make you think and react. As the story progresses, God’s emotions are ever changing. The Copley provides the platform. Alex Weisman delivers."
