A Wrinkle in Time Reviews

"...Ultimately, “A Wrinkle in Time” is a story about family, friendship and self-acceptance — and, best of all, it’s not afraid to get a bit dark and weird along the way."

"...Lifeline Theatre's adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's 1962 seminal sci-fi/fantasy hybrid novel, A Wrinkle in Time, is a dazzling take on its source material. The story of young Meg Murray, the loner daughter of two scientists who sets out to rescue her mysteriously missing father, this adaptation by James Sie (directed by Heather Currie) still has the same issues that every adaptation of L'Engle's text has had. Translating Wrinkle's dense lore is quite a challenge which typically overshadows the artful approach to staging that the creative team has."

"...It’s life affirming in these dark times to return to a classic hero's journey, especially if the hero is a young girl. And Lifeline Theatre has the perfect tale: a revival of James Sie’s adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s Newberry Award winning science fiction story: A Wrinkle In Time."

"...Younger theatergoers, as well as their grownup guests, will be on the edge of their seats as this exhilarating saga unfolds before their eyes. A dark and stormy night has never seemed so scary, and yet promises such an exciting and fulfilling adventure of love, hope and the eternal battle between good and evil."

"...Being a lifelong fan of A Wrinkle in Time, the 1962 book by Madeleine L'Engle, is not unusual. It's a must-read for elementary-school-aged kids, as much fun in the classroom as it is reading at home under the covers. This time of year is perfect for a cozy afternoon or evening at the theater, moving from gentle rain outside into the world of this story, which begins with an eerie thunderstorm that brings unexpected visitors to Meg Murry's home."

"...Settling into Lifeline Theatre in anticipation of their production of A Wrinkle in Time feels akin to joining your eccentric friend in their small but well-decorated living room for an evening of stories, laughter, and love. The seating is maybe a little tight, but it’s cozy. Everyone around you is buzzing with excitement; they are seeing a friend, they love the book, or they are just plain excited to see live theatre. The exposed brick is beautiful, and complements well the arching, colorful set by Lindsay Mummert which fools you with its simplicity."

"...Lifeline Theatre’s A Wrinkle in Time is a good example of bringing a classic book to life and introducing it to the younger generation. The company’s Ensemble Emeritus member James Sie wrote many book-to-stage adaptations including Madeleine L’Engle’s 1962 novel. Lifeline has revived the play several times since its premiere in 1990, defying the complexity of the sci-fi story with success."
