A Midsummer Night Scream Reviews

Around The Town Chicago - Recommended

"...I love it when theatre companies take Shakespeare and turn his classic stories into something modern. Over the years, I've seen some clever adaptations at theatres ranging from the Goodman to Chicago Shakespeare Theater-and I've also seen a few that made me wonder, "Why did they do that?" Otherworld Theatre Company's A Midsummer Night Scream is definitely not one of those.Otherworld has nailed the concept. Take Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, throw it into the world of 1980s horror and slasher movies, bring it into the 21st century, add some modern themes, and you have a production that is both funny and frightening. The story begins with five friends heading into the deep woods for a bachelor-party weekend. If you have ever watched an '80s horror movie, you already know this probably won't end well."

Chicago On Stage - Somewhat Recommended

"...Even with two productions of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream under my belt as I entered Greenhouse Theater for Otherworld Theatre's A Midsummer Night Scream, I was not quite prepared for what was waiting for me in these particular woods. I probably would have been more prepared had I spent more time on 80s slasher movies rather than the Bard."
