"...Chalk "A Coupla White Chicks" up as proto-chick flick material (the play debuted just a few months before the seminal women-empowerment film comedy "9 to 5"). While Noonan's play does touch upon the constrained roles of wealthy housewives, his plotting and speeded-up emotions for the characters ultimately feel contrived and phony."

"...The only reason I suspect Buffalo Theatre produced A Coupla White Chicks was to give its artistic leaders some fun roles to let loose ( Howard is the troupe's artistic director, while Barrett is the associate artistic director ) . Both Howard and Barrett look like they're having a ball on stage under Loretta Hauser's direction, plus I do have to admit that it's sometimes amusing to giggle at all the 1970s fashions, the rotary dial telephones and the disco hits played throughout the production."

"...It's hard to see from playwright John Ford Noonan's slightly constructed script exactly why Hannah Mae finds Maude so irresistible, and even harder to see why these two would ever end up being as close as the script suggests. The fun of the evening comes in watching Barrett and Howard lowering their defenses and building their far-fetched rapport. Ms. Barrett's prim and prissy Maude is the perfect foil for Ms. Howard's "golly gee" naiveté. Watching the two go at each other in one particular scene is one of the funniest cat fights you will ever see. And even if the play doesn't always make the most logical sense, it is a perfectly amiable way to spend an 80 minute flashback to the 1970's."
