"...The new musical "Under A Rainbow Flag", with book, music and lyrics by Leo Schwartz is the story of a group of closeted gay servicemen during World War II. The only kind of gay servicemen in 1943, and shamefully, in 2003 for that matter. The show explores the relationships that form among them, and their efforts to conceal those relationships from the straight military world. It's a fascinating premise to be sure but this show doesn't quite do that premise justice."

This show is a tribute to the wholesomeness and heart of gay men. It celebrates the essence of being gay with a high-energy expression. It contains humor, angst, love, and hope as those early brave souls were determined to live in truth. This is a fun show that could use a trim and more authentic military uniforms but it delivers a well-sung tribute to gay veterans all around bravery. It is a worthy new musical that begs an audience."

"...David Zak's well-cast ensemble impresses with their musical and choreographic talents. Sam Button-Harrison provides the heart of the play as Jon Phillips. His journey from wide-eyed innocent to jilted lover and finally a forgiving young man who has learned from his past is both subtle and accomplished. Jordan Phelps gives a nicely grounded, believable performance as Stefano and James Nedrud sparkles as the hilarious auto mechanic hoofer, Russell. Kyrie Anderson stands out both vocally and dramatically as Donna, bringing a welcome female voice to this cast."
