The Dumb Waiter presented by Proud Kate Theatre Project at Profiles Theatre - The Alley Stage

Centerstage - Somewhat Recommended

"...The script for the Dumb Waiter calls for Ben to be an older man and Gus, a younger one. However this production casts a pair of young actors in the roles, which unfortunately strips out the odd-duck father-son relationship that the two develop. And while the set by Josh Prisching and the sound by Thomas Dixon both do fine jobs of creating seedy yet spooky mise-en-scene, McGrath's direction does not create any tension. The play is always a talky one, but McGrath and the actors are never able to imbue with the kind of subliminal menace that drives Pinter's early works. And with a number of jokes that fall flat as well, the entire show starts to feel like a college showcase instead of storefront theatre."
