This is certainly true of the performances, which are loose and playful (but not so silly it seems self-indulgent), and also true of other aspects of the production. Kristen Brinati's witty costumes-each child in the contest has their own look-are both fun and revealing of the character's hidden depths. From start to finish, Pazdernik and company have everything well in hand: the book, the score, the craft-even the improv-like chaos."
