Three sisters living in the U.S. are caught in the mess of a recent war's aftermath. When their soldier sister finally returns home, this family of little economic means must find a way to make do and carry on, while leaning on the strength of their family. Caridad Svich's contemporary American story of faith, love, war, trauma and a bit of healing comes to the stage in the Pentagon Space at Collaboraction Studios in Chicago, courtesy of the female-focused 20% Theatre Company.

They fight a lot, usually invoking their dead mama. There's some backwoods mysticism and a guy named Hector who insists that he loves prickly Evelyn, though who knows why. "...The concept of women seeking their fortune in the ring or on the battlefield may baffle audiences accustomed to conventional gender roles, but Caridad Svitch is not a playwright to traffic in sexist stereotypes. However remote the experience of the Gilmords may be from our own, Denise Yvette Serna's subtle direction, a cast delivering full-bodied, delicate-subtexted performances, a minimalist stage ambience detailed down to individual birdsongs-indeed, every aspect of this 20% Theatre production-ensures our emotional investment in the realization of their goals."
