On the Threshold of Winter at Victory Gardens Theater - Biograph

Having been diagnosed with liver cancer in the 1990s, Romanian poet and playwright Marin Sorescu sat down to write a series of reflective poems. Michael Hersch's monodrama On the Threshold of Winter is based on those poems, with music that mirrors their dark, fragile textures and quietly complex seriousness. The work stitches together Sorescu's reflections into an emotionally affecting and memorable musical experience. For this third installment in Victory Gardens Theater's STAGED series, guest soprano Ah Young Hong joins Dal Niente to reprise her role as the monodrama's "lone, blazing star" (The New York Times) in this searing and unflinching look at the human journey toward death.
