For the Love Of (or, The Roller Derby Play) Reviews
Chicago Tribune- Somewhat Recommended
"...Only a big fight near the end, between Joy and her girlfriend - the latter of whom spells out the reality of someone having to earn money in their relationship - feels raw and real and complicated, and for one brief moment, the play this could have been comes into focus."
Chicago Reader- Somewhat Recommended
"...The team has a new recruit, Joy (Alex Dauphin), whose relationship with her partner, the out-of-work Michelle, is threatened once "Joy Ride," as she's known to her derby friends, develops eyes for a teammate, the powerhouse jammer Lizzie Lightning (Erica Hernandez). Kenzie Seibert's authentic concern and hurt as Michelle give this Pride Films and Plays production a groundedness sometimes lacking in the more rah-rah team scenes. Rachel Edwards Harvith directed."

"...This world premiere could use a trim. At 2 hours, 30 minutes, it drags on at certain scenes but ultimately it delivers. Among the terrific cast, Alex Dauphin's Joy, Erica Hernandez's Lizzie and Kenzie Seibert's Michelle were particularly effective. This is a promising new work that speaks to a little know sport. it is worth a look."

"...Pride Films and Plays has done themselves proud - I know, I just couldn't resist - with their world premiere production of "For the Love Of (or, the Roller Derby Play)". Director Rachel Edwards Harvith has assembled a talented cast who do full justice to a complicated and very physically challenging script"
