Description:

Organic Theater Company is now accepting submissions for their upcoming production of Scandalabra.

Scandalabra by Zelda Fitzgerald
Directed by Anna H Gelman

When Andrew Messogany's uncle dies, he is left a fortune with a catch: that he, an innocent farmer, keeps up the family's reputation as irresponsible, reckless socialites. But even as he and his wife, Flower, pound champagne and party through the night, they are paranoid that the executors will discover they are secretly in a loving marriage. Bored with caviar but not the money that bought it, Flower decides to seal their fate for good. Isn't money, power, and fame worth a little scandal? And if the newspapers didn't report it, did it happen at all?

ROLE BREAKDOWNS AS DICTATED BY ZELDA FITZGERALD:

FLOWER MESSOGONY: Andrew's wife and the brains of their relationship. Much smarter than she is perceived, much more devious than she'd let anyone know. As Zelda Fitzgerald describes her: "She's both careless and deliberate at once and she does everything she does in after the manner of a lady giving a plate of bones to a hungry police dog."

ANDREW MESSOGONY: Flower's husband, a former farmer, and the heir to the Messogony fortune. "Andrew's apologetic approach to life has almost effaced his attractions - but they're there. He's a nice man, all brushed and washed and very, very likable, though you can see he will have to be taken care of."

CONNIE CONSEQUENTIAL: Peter's wife, who loves the papers and a good scandal, as long as she's at the center of it. "She's restless, pretty, and can't find any directions in the Social Register about what to do with these two important factors in her life."

PETER CONSEQUENTIAL: Connie's husband. Deeply practical and straight-foward. "Peter's got a lot of talent for ushering at weddings and bachelor dinners but he has had to neglect it to get on in the world. He's very handsome, and he'd rather you didn't know about this."

BAFFLES: Andrew and Flower's butler, who is ahead of them at nearly every turn. "He's terribly chic even for a butler. He's one of the most elegant people you ever met in your life."
