Description:

Three Brothers Theatre is seeking actors to submit for their production of Spring Awakening by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater.

Auditions by appointment will be held:
Sunday March 3 from 1-7 pm at Three Brothers Theatre Upstage (221 N Genesee St. Waukegan IL 60085).

Thursday March 7 6-10 pm at Three Brothers Theatre Downstage (115 N. Genesee St. Waukegan IL 60085).

Callbacks will be held:
Monday March 11 between 6-10 pm.

Video audition submissions are welcome, however, callbacks must be attended in person.

There is a performance stipend of $180 total and two comp tickets for the run.

Actors of all races, ethnicities, genders, sexualities, and abilities encouraged to submit. Note: due to the show's themes, actors cast need to be 18+.

Note: Traditionally this musical presents characters who are white, cis-gendered, and able-bodied, however, we are excited to work with actors who do not necessarily identify with any or all of the above. If this applies to you, please feel free to let us know if there is a particular role you would like to be considered for.

NOTE: This production DOES contain sexual content and nudity. This production DOES contain themes of mental illness, depression and death. This production DOES contain some violence. All intimacy and violence will be choreographed to ensure safety for all involved

Seeking:
Wendla (E5- E3)
Innocent. With every passing day, she grows more curious about the world around her and her changing body. Both vulnerable and a willing participant in her evolution. Explores her newly-found sexuality with Melchior.

Melchior (B4- G2)
A smart, headstrong boy who refuses to bow down to society's rules. An atheist and radical student. Struggles with his intense feelings for Wendla and his awakening sexual urges.

Martha (E5-E3)
A schoolgirl who faces constant physical abuse from her father. She harbors a secret crush towards Moritz.

Moritz (A4-C3)
Melchior's best friend, a troubled student. He desperately tries to please his father, but always seems to disappoint him. His haunting sexual dreams and academic failures eventually drive him to suicidal thoughts.

Thea (E5-E3)
Wendla's best friend. A schoolgirl who tries to stay innocent and pure.

Hanschen (D5- Ab2)
A rather narcissistic schoolmate of Melchior's. He is comfortable with his own sexuality and uses his looks and intelligence to captivate Ernst. Doubling as RUPERT.

Anna (C5-E3)
A schoolgirl and Martha's best friend. Optimistic and a bit naive, she has a difficult time understanding Martha's trials.

Ernst (A4- Ab2)
A schoolmate of Melchior's. Naive and easily manipulated, which allows him to fall in love with Hanschen. Doubling as REINHOLD.

Ilse (E5- E3)
Martha's sister, who was also abused and has run away from home to live in an artists' colony.

Georg (D5- Ab2)
A clumsy schoolmate of Melchoir's. He is overcome with his feelings for his piano teacher. Doubling as DIETER.

Otto (D5- Ab2)
A classmate of Melchior's. He struggles with feelings he considers inappropriate. Optional Doubling as ULBRECHT.

Adult Woman (A4-D3)
Plays a variety of rigid adult roles. Characters include: FRAU BERGMAN, Wendla's mother; FRAULEIN KNUPPELDICK; FRAULEIN GROSSEBUSTENHALTER; FRAU GABOR, Melchior's mother; and FRAU BESSELL, Martha's mother.

Adult Man (F4-D3)
Plays a variety of rigid adult roles. Characters include: HERR SONNENSTITCH, the boys' teacher; HEADMASTER KNOCHENBRUCH; HERR NEUMANN, Ilse's father; HERR RILOW, Hanschen's father; HERR STEIFEL, Moritz's father; FATHER KAULBACH; DOCTOR VON BRAUSEPULVER; HERR GABOR, Melchior's father; and SCHMIDT.

Time Commitment:

A first read will be scheduled for late April or early May. Rehearsals begin on Monday, July 8th and will be scheduled around actor availability. Rehearsals will typically run Saturday and Sunday afternoons and Monday-Wednesday nights, dependent on actor availability. Rehearsals will be held at Three Brothers Theater. Carpooling from Chicago and Milwaukee may be arranged and available.

Tech will be the week of September 1st. There is one preview performance Thursday September 5th. The show runs September 6th-28th. Performances will be Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm with one matinee Sunday performance (date in September TBD).

Material To Prepare:

Please prepare 32 bars of a rock/pop or contemporary musical theatre song and a one minute contemporary monologue. An accompanist will be provided; please bring sheet music in the key you will be using.
