Seeking play submissions and director applications.

The Arc Theatre's annual festival of short new works, arciTEXT, returns for its seventh year. Each year, The Arc challenges the Chicago Artist Community to come up with original new works inspired by a literary theme. This year, the theme is "Forbidden Fruit." The Arc seeks provocative playwrights, directors and actors to collaborate and create their unique presentation inspired by this year's theme, taking any and all liberties.

PLAYS. The Arc seeks submissions of short works from new playwrights riffing on the central theme of "Forbidden Fruit." Plays will be chosen based on their unique exploration of the theme, as well as how they fit into an evening long dialogue of the subject matter. Plays can be written in any form or style. Ease of production will be taken into account in the selection process as limited lighting, sound and set support will be available in the final production. There are no restrictions on amount of characters, but cats of 1-5 are preferred. Plays more than 10 pages long will not be considered. Playwrights contact information will be provided to Directors, and playwrights can be involved in the rehearsal process in a mutually agreed upon manner.

Playwrights should submit their completed first draft scripts to natalie@arctheatrechicago.org by 10pm on February 3rd, 2019 for consideration.

DIRECTORS. The Arc seeks directors to facilitate each of the short works. Directors will be expected to lead the rehearsal and production process of their particular play within the festival. Some rehearsal space will be provided for each production, as well as designated tech time. Directors can, in collaboration with their cast, schedule additional rehearsal time as needed. A group audition will be facilitated by The Arc, directors may cast from this casting pool in collaboration with other directors, or they may cast the show on their own- provided actors are committed to all rehearsal and production dates prior to the casting deadline.
