Chicago Tap Theatre
Director Submissions

Pay: Yes

Description:

Chicago Tap Theatre is currently accepting director submissions for their new Tap Dance opera, Saving the World. The Tap Dance opera is a story show format that uses tap dance, sets, lasers and one speaking character (played by Poetry Slam creator and CTT's Writer-in-Residence Marc Kelly Smith) to tell a full-length story. This one is rooted in near-futurism, and deals with concerns of environmental catastrophe, profit-motives and the cult-of-personality.

The Director will be working with CTT Artistic Director and choreographer Mark Yonally, who will be creating all of the tap steps and rhythms and developing the conception of the show.

We are looking for directors with a passionate interest in new work, and in the collaborative process between directors, choreographers and playwrights to develop a new show from start to finish. Prospective Directors MUST have a strong sense of movement and staging, the ability to convey complex emotions and narrative without words, and a keen visual sensibility.
