Metropolis Performing Arts Centre in downtown Arlington Heights, IL announces general auditions for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Spring 2019), music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, will be directed by resident director, Lauren Rawitz, with musical direction by Kailey Rockwell, and choreography by Bryan Wlas. Seeking strong non-Equity adult actors/ singers/ dancers. Gymnastics and special skills a plus. Particularly seeking actors of diversity, who are strongly encouraged to audition. Gender-fluid casting available.

Audition Dates:
Sunday, November 4, 12:00pm-10:00pm.
Monday, November 5, 7:30pm-10:30pm.
Audition slots will be individually assigned based on the closest available requested date(s)/time(s).
Callback Dates:
Monday, November 12, 6:30pm-10:30pm
Wednesday, November 14, 6:30pm-10:30pm.

Time Commitment:

Rehearsals - Monday, March 25, 2019 - Monday, May 6, 2019: Weekly rehearsals include Mondays-Thursdays, 7:00pm-10:00pm; Saturdays, 1:00pm-5:00pm; and Sundays, 6:00pm-10:00pm. Fridays are the designated evening off. Tech Week - Tuesday, May 7, 2019- Saturday, May 18, 2019: Actors with multiple tech week conflicts will not be under consideration. Schedule is as follows: Tuesday 5/7-Thursday 5/9, 6:00pm-11:00pm; Sunday 5/12, 12:00pm-11:00pm; Monday 5/13-Wednesday 5/15, 6:00pm-11:00pm. There are no rehearsals on Friday 5/10-Saturday 5/11. Previews & Performances - Thursday, May 16, 2019 - Saturday, June 29, 2019: Standard performance schedule includes Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30pm; Saturdays and Sundays at 3:00pm. There is no show on Saturday, June 29.

Material To Prepare:

Please prepare 32 bars of a comedic musical theatre song. You are welcome to choose a song from the show. Please prepare a comedic monologue no longer than 1 minute in length. Please bring with a second song just in case we need to hear more. An accompanist will be provided. You must audition and bring an updated headshot and resume even if you have been seen at Metropolis for past shows. Dance/ movement calls will occur during designated callback days.
