Chicago Reader- Highly Recommended

"...Director Terry McCabe's 17-member ensemble is much larger than the casts usually seen on City Lit's intimate stage, and the choral work, both spoken and sung, is excellent."

Stage and Cinema- Highly Recommended

"...Sullivan’s supple score, perfectly warbled thanks to music director Daniel Robinson, is diverting to delirious. Superb satire, Gilbert’s topsy-turvy nonsense shrewdly skewers unqualified but connected magistrates, unctuous soubrettes who play on people’s pity, and a worthless defendant who considers marriage a very movable feast. Nothing could be more fun."

"...Here is a singular opportunity to experience McCabe’s cracking concept. To see the work of Chamberlain and Day is a treat."

Chicago Theatre Review- Recommended

"...The resulting combination is a pleasant, if brief, diversion, which sounds like I’m slighting the shows, but I’m not. If this age of ‘Peak TV’ has taught me anything, it’s that constantly watching things that aim for being a Life Changing Experience is exhausting. The pair of shows, running a combined 90 minutes including an intermission, did exactly what I want my theater-going experiences to do: be entertaining. The cast is brimming with talent and energy, and they made for a delightful evening."

"...Two Days in Court, if nothing else, proves that theatre is are meant to be heard before being judged: because whether a show’s guilty or innocent, well, that’s up to the audience to decide."

"...Overall this is recommend because it is good material that deserves to be seen and it is generally well performed. Also I have faith in this cast and expect it will improve with each performance."

Chicago On Stage- Recommended

"...Two Days in Court, City Lit Theater’s final production of the 2018-2019 season, consists of two classic short pieces about trials: “The Devil and Daniel Webster” by Stephen Vincent Benet and “Trial By Jury,” a very silly operetta from Gilbert and Sullivan. Directed by City Lit Artistic Director Terry McCabe and featuring an exuberant repertory cast, these two rarely-seen works come together in a 90-minute show that may not be revelatory but is certainly entertaining."
