Chicago Reader - Highly Recommended

"...This new version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's oft-adapted novel, created for the stage by the same "adaption development group" that did Steppenwolf's Young Adults Program take on Animal Farm in 2014, has many virtues, not the least of which is that the story is retold simply but effectively, with a fine balance between wit and suspense."

"...Joel Thompson and Nathan Pease as Holmes and Watson, respectively, make not only the individual roles wholly their own, but embrace the adaptation's unique take on their relationship. Pease is a more damaged Watson than we usually see, and one who struggles openly to make his way in the world as a doctor, a former soldier, a writer, and something more than just a sidekick to Holmes. The liberties that the the adapters take with the story rest on the actor's capable shoulders and what's been added, what's been removed and what's been transformed in this telling are not just believable, the story and the characters are enriched by it."

"...The Hound of the Baskervilles is another stage worthy production by idle muse under the fine direction by Evan Jackson, Come see a fun mystery and take in the newest Chicago Theatre -Edge Theatre now a storefront but a complete just built 115 seat theatre complete with a large stage, fly space, etc. The show is entertaining and the venue will blow you away. Chicago needs 4 or 5 more of these full theatres."

"...This is a talented crew! And Director Evan Jackson keeps the mystery unfolding with sophistication and clever techniques. Fog billows along the ground. Actors become framed portraits. The appearance of the hound itself is a bit of a spectacle. Jackson does a fine job of giving us a few visual distractions in this otherwise heavy mystery talkie."
