Machos Reviews
Chicago Tribune- Highly Recommended
"...I am continually impressed with the range and quality of talent in this ensemble, and their manly mannerisms are dead on. Listen to the way Wendy Vargas, a punk in cornrows and a spindly goatee, says, "OK, girl, you're on crack!" putting an emphasis on the last word in the way only a certain kind of man would."

"...Two things keep it from being yet another funny show about gender stereotypes: it's not always funny, and it's often painstakingly specific. The performers' physical embodiment of the characters makes them truly convincing, and the act of imagination it requires of them and us is healing."

"...This revue’s humor and pathos blend together in Paz’s great staging, which flows seamlessly from one topic to the next. Pointing out that much of how we learn to fit society’s gender roles is shaped by others, Paz strategically places actors in the scenes watching close by or from a distance."

"...for their newest production, "Macho" they chose to interview fifty men and learn about their experiences. Experiences with their family, their friends, sports, sex and gender searching and in this 90 minutes, the eight women actors become these men telling their stories ( as men would). Developed and directed by Coya Paz, this remarkable work might remind you a little of Studs Terkel's "Working" as each "man" tells his story with a little musical help (a wonderful song about not "Being Gay". And another telling the audience to "Be A Man".). Each scene will either make you laugh or make you think. This is a powerful look at these 50 men and a solid 90 minutes of theater."

"...Machos is thoroughly enjoyable, and made recommendable by the ensemble’s uncanny acting and Paz’s strong shaping, but we’ve come to expect more insight from this talented group than it gives us here."
