"...In the Music Theater Works staging running through Nov. 12 at Skokie's North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, director Sasha Gerritson doesn't attempt to reinvent the wheel. Her musically sound production is packed with visual flourishes and robust dance numbers, with choreographer Clayton Cross taking her cues from the cinematic sweep that instilled much of the movement in MGM's 1954 movie version of the musical. The production looks and sounds great."

"...The secret of what Jeff calls the "Highland voodoo town" takes a while to come out. In fact, the biggest problem with Brigadoon is that it's a fairly slight story, with glancing tragicomic overtones, stuffed into an overlong show. The film version has the advantage of Technicolor scenery, but the one-set world we see at Music Theater Works doesn't offer the same visual treats to enhance the story. Nonetheless, despite the creakiness of the material, the performers give stirring voice to several of the songs (Obert in particular is outstanding throughout), and there are moments of twee Scottish humor enlivened by a robust ensemble."

"...So yes it is a silly play with some lovely tunes, simple fairytale set and costumes, with some great moments about the human condition that ring emotionally true, and perhaps most
importantly, very well done by Musical Theater Works. Go see it."

"...Directed by Sasha Gerritson, with a stunning cast, this production brings back memories from many years ago. I think Marriott was the last place I saw this show and over the years I have wondered when a company will step forward and do something that is simple and lovely with a story that is pure fantasy and at the same time, pure love. After all, the story is about a village that only comes alive one day every one hundred years, and in this case, our hero Tommy Albright (Conor Jordan is dynamic) meets Fiona (played to perfection by Sarah Obert) and one can feel that they are a match made in heaven. Yet, in order for this to take place, he can never leave."

"...Music Theater Works seems to be getting better and better with each new production. I feel like whenever the company performs on the more intimate North Stage theater space their work is noticeably finer and of a higher quality. "Brigadoon," Lerner and Loewe's first hit musical and bonafide classic, is directed with skill by Sasha Gerritson. Her large, multitalented cast is backed by a brilliant, mellifluous-sounding orchestra. It's a rare theatrical treat that recalls the Golden Era of Musicals. This production offers a beautiful story and brings some much-needed romance, hope and magic back to a world that has, sadly, become sad, angry and jaded. Everyone needs a Brigadoon to remind them that if you love someone deeply, anything is possible. Even miracles!"

"..."Brigadoon" demanded a cast well-versed in three domains: acting, singing, and dancing, with the latter two dependent on Sound Designer Vija Lapp and Music Director / Conductor Michael McBride's 7-piece orchestra. On the whole it was grand, supporting but not overwhelming the cast, though I do wish McBride had found a bagpipe. Lighting Designer Andrew Meyers skillfully evoked the shifting environments, from bright celebration to nubilous mystery."

"...With such Lerner and Lowe songs as "Almost Like Bein' in Love" and "Come to Me, Bend to Me," it would be hard to not put on a fine musical. However, Brigadoon, now presented at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts by Music Theater Works, goes beyond merely "fine.""

"...A lush lullaby of music lured the audience into the North Theatre at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie for the opening of the Music Theater Works production of the Lerner and Loewe classic "Brigadoon." An ethereal pastoral landscape, swirling with misty enchantment, set the tone for the story of wonder, witchcraft and love ahead."

"...Like the successful works of Rogers and Hammerstein, Brigadoon’s main focus is a love story. This is then complimented by some minor romance subplots and the contrast of city life to the simplicity of the country. Ultimately, the overall theme is that true love can transcend time and conquer all."
