And there are a couple of especially interesting things about director Cheryl Lynn Bruce's new production for the Congo Square Theatre. One is that Bruce has cast a company of veteran Chicago actors, ranging from Ernest Perry Jr., a major figure in Chicago theater history whom one rarely sees these days, to Anthony Irons, a veteran of countless Wilson productions and the actor I've always felt best understood Wilson's anarchic sense of humor. Irons, who injects most of the pace into a production that suffers from a deficit thereof, is at his very best as Turnbo, one of the many Wilson characters who live in the moment much as a tightly coiled spring might live in a box."
