Into the Woods

Cahn Auditorium
600 Emerson Street Evanston

Before Lin-Mauel Miranda came along, Stephen Sondheim was Broadway's rappingest wordsmith. Into the Woods works its considerable magic through his exhilarating ryhmes and occasionally grim wisdom. The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results in this production at the Cahn Auditorium.

Around The Town Chicago - Highly Recommended

"...I will start by saying “I LOVE the works ( and words) of Stephen Sondheim! Perhaps, Jane ( my wife) would say, this is too mild, but I find his shows to be so much fun as he creates works where he fits words into spots where they never should fit, BUT does it to perfection, so when he does it, they fit! Over the years I have seen at least 18 productions of my favorite Sondheim work, “Into The Woods” and last night, I saw the latest, and one of the best, productions over in Evanston as produced by Music Theater Works ( formerly Light Opera Works). Director Rudy Hogenmiller has found some of the finest of the finest ( as close to the Broadway originals as one might see on a local stage) talent to make this stylish musical that intertwines some of our favorite Grimm fairy tales a delight to experience!"
