The Black Knight

Description:

Lifeboat Productions seeks submissions for the World Premiere of the new play THE BLACK KNIGHT by Angeli Primlani. Rehearsals will begin on January 18, 2022 and performances are at City Lit Theatre from February 26 to April 3, 2022, Thursdays-Sundays.

Synopsis:
THE BLACK KNIGHT is a romantic period drama about emotional intimacy, isolation, and the meaning of resistance in an overwhelming world, set in 1940s Nazi-occupied Prague. The script is available upon request.

Roles:
Please note, the role of Albrecht has already been cast, but we are seeking understudies for all roles. The roles of Kathi and Albrecht include onstage intimacy, and this production will have a qualified Intimacy Choreographer.

KATHI: A twenty-five year old army secretary who is working for the resistance. In love with Albrecht, but cannot trust anyone affiliated with the Nazi Party or the SS. In Kathi and Albrecth's scenes, the words spoken and non-verbal communication used often carry parallel double-meanings, as characters are aware that they could be listened to at any time.

ALBRECHT: A twenty-eight year old Captain in the SS intelligence division who is finally coming to understand the implications of his work. Sought out Kathi after she broke off their engagement five years ago. In Albrecht and Kathi's scenes, the words spoken and non-verbal communication used often carry parallel double-meanings, as characters are aware that they could be listened to at any time.

MARTA: A twenty-five year old army secretary who is not working for the resistance. She's sweet, maybe a little dumb, and the kind of person Kathi is pretending to be. Maybe she'd be a better person if she were surrounded by better people, but she's not someone with the moral intelligence to see what is wrong with this crowd. She's a party girl who means well, and that still doesn't make it okay. Cross-cast with two 1-scene roles.

FORESTER: Mid-40s, Nazi officer and a true believer. He did NOT grow up under surveillance and pretty much means what he says.

SCHELLENBERG: Early 30s, Forester's boss in the SD (and Albrecht's by extension). Works directly for Heydrich. Utter true believer on a level that makes Forester look like he's a bit soft. Perfect representative of what a SS officer should be and knows it. Both Albrecht and Forester hate this guy. Always means what he says no matter how weird it is. HONZA: Czech officer working with the resistance. Honza is not his real name. Early 20s. Cross-cast with 1-scene civilian role.
