Babes With Blades Theatre Company announces auditions for their Winter 2022 production of Plaid as Hell by Cat McKay, directed by Christina Casano. General auditions are by invitation, and held by pre-taped video, with possible Zoom readings. Callbacks are TBD in person, and will require proof of vaccination.

The roles below are listed with the character's gender identity, but however limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be inclusive and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to audition for the roles they most identify with. We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities. In addition, we are seeking actors of all abilities.

While all roles require stage combat, we are open to actors at all levels of stage combat experience (including no experience). We will be providing a week of stage combat training the first week of rehearsals in the fight style of the show.

Emilie: Black lesbian woman in her mid-20s. Sharply sarcastic, smart, down to earth, and deeply honest with her friends.

Cass: white lesbian woman in her mid-20s. The kind of friend who makes sure her drunk friends get home from the bar safe.

Jessica: Latinx pansexual woman in her mid-20s. Quiet, smart, with some surprising toughness underneath.

All roles require artists to have proof of vaccination. EMILIE and KELLY will require stage intimacy (a kiss) as well as JESS and CASS (kissing and touching on stage, off-stage sounds of simulated sex) - no intimacy will be required at callbacks. A violence designer/choreographer and an intimacy designer/choreographer will be hired for this production. Details regarding safety protocols for our callbacks will be provided with invite. A violence designer will be present for the callbacks. Pay for each role is a stipend of $175.
