Big Noise Theatre
Crack the Door for Some Air

Pay: No Pay

Description:

Big Noise Theatre is seeking actors for an upcoming virtual workshop of a new work, written by activist and playwright Dr. Mary E. Weems.

Crack the Door for Some Air explores the unjust reality of police brutality against Black women in America right now and how it affects families and communities, mirroring a real-life incident after a neighbor calls the non-emergency number after noticing the front door cracked open at his neighbor's home. This play was created in protest of the murder of Atatiana Jefferson and the deaths of all Black women killed by police, including Sandra Bland and Breonna Taylor. The play is a combination of fact and the imagination of the playwright.

The virtual workshop will consist of two virtual rehearsals, followed by one in person rehearsal with proper social distancing and sanitizing protocols per the CDC Covid-19 guidelines. There will be one in person "performance" that is filmed and will be published over the summer in a virtual premiere. Donations collected from the virtual premiere will be donated to a local organization focusing on work against police brutality against the Black community.
