Pocket Holler Productions is holding auditions for Exile - Long-Short or Short Feature Film (50-65 mins.)

Synopsis: Having lived illegally in the U.S. for almost a decade, a Polish immigrant faces a stark choice: stay in the U.S., hustling to send money home, or leave the U.S.-forever--in order to be with the two daughters he left behind. The acting degree he earned back in Poland hasn't helped in the U.S., but an unexpected encounter with a successful independent film director may change the course of his life.

Audition date: February/March 2020.

Characters:
Kizysztof (Kris) Rzeczycki: male, 35-45. Kris has lived illegally in the U.S. for nine years, much longer than he expected when he first arrived. By working as a house painter and weekend bartender, he earns money to send home to the ex-wife and two daughters he left behind in Krakow. Ethnicity: White/European descent; must speak fluent Polish and pretty good English. Time commitment: 7-10 production days.

Abigail Gordon: female, 45-55. Abigail is a successful independent film director. She is single, talented, hard-working, funny, and financially secure. She's self absorbed. She knows her way around a screwdriver. Ethnicity: White/European descent. Time commitment: 6-8 production days.

Female friend/Mia: female, 40-55. A good friend of Abigail, Mia is a professional illustrator and graphic novelist. She takes a weekend yoga class. Note: this role does not require drawing ability. Ethnicity: Any; special consideration for Hispanic/Latina actresses. Time commitment: 1 production day.

Production Assistant (PA)/Marco/Muna: male or female, 20-25. (one spoken line) Older crew members boss him/her around. He/she is kept runnning constantly. Still, she/he's thrilled to be working on the crew for an Abigail Gordon production...and looking for reasons to get noticed by her. Ethnicity: Any; special consideration for Arab/Middle Eastern/Biracial actor. Time commitment: 2 production days.

Mother in car: female, 40-50. When her new-driver teen son plows the family car into the rear bumper of the car ahead, she wants to set an example for her son and do the right thing. That is, file a police report and make an insurance claim. So why does the guy in the car ahead just drive away? Ethnicity: Black/African descent, Hispanic/Latino, or Asian (must coincide with role of "Teen driver/Teddy"; mother-son pairs are encouraged to audition) Acceptable and desirable: Accent when speaking English, reflecting birth outside U.S. Time commitment: 1 production day.

Teen driver/Teddy: male, 15/16. (nonspeaking role) Poor Teddy. While learning to drive stick shift from his mom, he mistakes the clutch for the brake and smacks into the rear end of the car ahead. His mom berates him, but the driver whose car he hit is inexplicably forgiving. Teddy's having a crappy day. Note: this role does NOT involve driving or knowing how to drive a car. Ethnicity: Black/African descent, Hispanic/Latino, or Asian (must coincide with role of "Mother in car"; mother-son pairs are encouraged to audition) Time commitment: 1 production day.

Male Friend #1/Pawel: male, 25-45. He's installing lighting for a 22-year-old YouTube millionaire. Back in Poland, he got a master's degree, but in the U.S. he does skilled manual labor. His friends tease him about watching only action movies and porn, but it may not be true. Ethnicity: White/European descent; must speak fluent Polish. Time commitment: 1 production day.

Male Friend #2/Łukasz: male, 25-45. He's currently installing tile in the home of a neurosurgeon. When not working, he likes to hang out with his Polish-speaking buddies. Ethnicity: White/European descent; must speak fluent Polish. Time commitment: 1 production day.
