Description:

Holiday tradition meets old-time nostalgia in this unique and sparkling version of the heart-warming Christmas tale of George Bailey and his guardian angel, Clarence. Actors perform It's a Wonderful Life in the traditional format of a 1940's radio broadcast: standing behind old-style microphones, they create the play by reading their scripts, singing songs, and aided by 1940's-style sound effects.

Roles Available:
General Information - All cast members will both perform their roles and assist with sound effects during the show.

Men (7)
-George Bailey - family man, dreamer, full of hope and life

-Clarence - an angel-in-training, eager to do the right thing to earn his wings. Will play other characters.

-Henry F. Potter - the richest and meanest man in town; wants total control of the town; has no heart. Will play other characters.

-Uncle Billy -- George's forgetful, bumbling, but well-meaning uncle. Will play other characters.

-Bert the Cop - George's friend as well as the town cop. Will play other characters.

-Ernie the Cab Driver - George's friend as well as the town cab driver. Will play other characters.

-Pa Bailey - George's father, worn down by his struggles with Potter over the Savings and Loan. Will play other characters.

Women (4)
-Mary - a sweet, gentle, caring hometown girl; has always been in love with George

-Violet - a boy-crazy town beauty who gets herself in trouble by her ploys to win affection from men; her only real friend is George. Will play other characters.

-Rose Bailey - George's mother, who is a caring, confident family counsellor on whom all her family members depend. Will play other characters

-Cousin Tilly - George's cousin, who works at the Savings and Loan. Will play other characters

Children/Teens (2-4)
-Young actors playing all child roles including Young George, Young Mary, and Zuzu.

Auditions will be held at St. James Church, 1380 Waukegan Rd., Lake Forest, IL

Callbacks will be scheduled if necessary.

Time Commitment:

Performances: Thursday, December 12th at 7:30pm; Friday, December 13th at 7:30pm; Saturday, December 14th at 3:00pm; and Saturday, December 14th at 7:30pm.

Material To Prepare:

Auditionees will read different roles and scenes from the play. The director will focus on how the voices blend and how the scene partners work together. The script is written in the format of an old-time radio show, where actors act as they read their parts in front of microphones, creating their characters with their voices. Vocal versatility is vital for the play to work. Actors must be able to use their voices to create different characters and to convey different emotions. Sides will be provided in advance.
