The Impostors Theatre Co.
Caged: An Allegory

Pay: $100 Stipend

Description:

Three artists receive an invitation from a former classmate to "...celebrate the birth of a masterpiece. An artistic touchstone for this millennium..." Upon arrival, the three estranged friends are greeted by a large mass covered by a tarp, sitting in the middle of a small gallery-a cage. In a great flourish, the tarp is pulled off to reveal "It"-a beautiful, frightening, and dangerous creature. Talons form It's hands and feathers grow from It's body. Nevertheless, the creature resembles a young woman, which sets in motion a heated argument between It's creator and the three artists about It's true being. Throughout this comedy/horror hybrid of a play, questions of identity and responsibility to one another rip the group apart as the friends begin to realize that they really don't know anything about each other...or about themselves.

As The Impostors celebrate the very successful run of "The Wood," the first show of our inaugural season, we look forward to launching our next production - the world premier of the allegory, "Caged."

Character Breakdown:
The Impostors Theatre Company has a desire to work with all kinds of artists. We encourage people of all backgrounds, races, gender identities, sexual orientations, ethnicities, and religions to submit for consideration!

E (20-30, Female identifying)
E is a force of nature. Self-assured and confident in her abilities as an artist, "success" is woven into her very DNA. Don't get in her way, or she'll run you over. Get on her bad side and she'll never let you live it down. Prove yourself, however, and she's got your back.

C (20-30, Male identifying)
If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. This may have been in C's vocabulary in college, but he's hit a wall since. It doesn't matter what C does - paint, sculpt, write - it never amounts to anything. Why try when success remains distant and elusive?

B (20-30, Male identifying)
Art only has meaning if it makes lasting change in the world. That is B's motivation for "exposure photography" - a project in which he photographs the homeless and impoverished to enlighten those who "have their noses in the air." However, B's nose also turns up - the scent of a plot will always scare him away to higher ground.

F (20-30, Male Identifying)
No one expected the weird, mouthy kid from college to actually make it as an artist, but post-graduate F can best be described as an egocentric who will do anything to prove himself and get ahead, including scheming for the artistic vision and creative input of the peers who once looked down on him.

The Creature (Female identifying)
Beauty and terror in a cage. The Creature isn't quite human, but isn't entirely animal either. What we do know is that The Creature is afraid and angry. Iron bars can only hold back claws and talons for so long.
