The Last Romance

Pay: No Pay

Description:

The Gallery Theater of West Chicago will hold auditions for The Last Romance by Joe Di Pietro, directed by Janet Gilleland.

A crush can make anyone feel young again-even a widower named Ralph. On an ordinary day in a routine life, Ralph takes a different path on his daily walk-one that leads him to an unexpected second chance at love. Relying on a renewed boyish charm, Ralph attempts to woo the elegant, but distant, Carol. Defying Carol's reticence-and his lonely sister's jealousy-Ralph embarks on the trip of a lifetime, and regains a happiness that seemed all but lost. This play is written by Joe Di Pietro who also wrote Over the River and Through the Woods.

The play needs three mature actors who can play characters who have moved into the 'September of their years" and a singer who is comfortable with performing short pieces from various operatic arias.

Carol Reynolds - She is proper, well dressed and owner of a small dog. She is shy, emotionally closed-off and not given to speaking to strangers...but, still, Ralph gets her to speak to him.

Ralph - He is vigorous and full of life...and although rough around the edges, he is charming. A frustrated opera singer, he once imagined singing operatic roles on the stage. He doesn't have a dog, but one day finds himself sitting in a dog park. Ralph has resilience of spirit and the physical and emotional energy to pursue Carol.

Rose - Ralph's older sister. When she was younger her husband disappeared in the middle of the night. Rose has never adjusted to this fact and has definitely not forgiven her husband. Ralph is sometimes the recipient of her sadness and fears.

The Young Man, represents a young Ralph and he delivers several arias including one from Leoncavallo's Pagliacci.
