"With the Puerto Rican Festival less than two weeks away, Humboldt Park prepares for the big event. With new neighbors looking to make changes, those that have lived in the community have to work together to either brace for change or let go of the legacies laid out by those that are long gone. A story about community, family, and politics, the question persists, who gets to lay claims to a neighborhood?"

CHARACTERS:
Reynaldo Rodriguez (LATINO, FLUENT SPANISH, Mid 40's)- Shop owner. Has been in the neighborhood his entire life, lives above the shop as well (also plays Herminio)

Herminio Rodriguez (LATINO late 20's, Mid-late 30's)- Newly arrived from Puerto Rico

Lourdes Rodriguez (LATINA Mid 20's, Mid 30')-Newly arrived from Puerto Rico

Mark (CAUCASIAN - Mid-late 30's) - New to the neighborhood. Opened a spa and wellbeing shop right next to Reinaldo

Susan (CAUCASIAN Mid-late 30's)- Mark's wife and business partner

Devin Thompson (MIXED-RACE Late teens)- Neighborhood kid, Shares a bike with Ricky. (also plays Harold Washington)

Ricky Gonzalez (LATINO Mid- 20's )- Neighborhood boy/girl/gender non conforming

Jules (LATINO, FLUENT SPANISH Mid-late 30's) - Real name Julio, real estate agent, used to live in the neighborhood, late 20's-early 30's (Also plays Roberto)

Roberto Jimenez (LATINO FLUENT SPANISH) Mid-late 20's)- Herminio's close friend, one of the organizers of the Young Lord's.

Alderman Nancy Torres ( LATINO Early-mid 40's)- She is the alderman of the area Humboldt Park resides in. Starts to get death threats about not approving the zoning for a new condo building.

Auditions will be held at UrbanTheater Company, 2620 W. Division St, Chicago 60622 (Humboldt Park)

Time Commitment:

Rehearsals begin mid-August. The show runs from Sept. 21 - Oct. 20 with four daytime performances.
