Broken Nose Theatre is casting the understudy role of Mel in our World Premiere Production of THE OPPORTUNITIES OF EXTINCTION by Sam Chanse and directed by BNT Company Member Jen Poulin. There is a guaranteed understudy performance.

Taking refuge from a twitterstorm and other assorted upheaval on a last-minute camping trip, Mel and Arjun meet Georgia, a solitary young woman studying the impact of climate change on the imperiled Joshua tree. At the crossroads of creation and obliteration, lovers and strangers in Joshua Tree National Park explore what it means to survive in a relationship and in a world on the brink of extinction.

Roles/Types:
MEL UNDERSTUDY: Mid/late 30s to early 40s, person of color, female-identified; Currently in transition from online journalism to fiction writing, she finds herself coming to terms with the fact that her career and life with long-time partner Arjun aren't quite turning out how she anticipated.

Time Commitment:

First Rehearsal: April 24, 2018
First Day of Tech: May 29, 2018
Jeff Opening: June 3, 2018 (with previews starting June 1, 2018)
Press Opening: June 4, 2018
Industry Night: June 18, 2018
Understudy Performance: June 27, 2018
Closing: June 30, 2018 (with potential one-week extension)

Rehearsal Schedule:
Sunday - Thursday rehearsals. Understudies will attend at least one rehearsal per week, as well as at least one performance per weekend once the run begins. There will also be understudy rehearsal once a week leading up to the understudy performance on June 27th based on everyone's availability.
