Steel Beam Theatre, the professional non-equity theatre of the Fox River Valley, announces auditions for a new adaptation of The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. Rehearsals begin in May. The production runs June 29 to July 15.

Auditions are scheduled for Saturday, April 28 at 1:00 p.m. at Steel Beam Theatre, 111 W Main St, St. Charles, IL 60174.

This classic comedy gets a new 'mod' adaptation that transports the fast-paced action to the 1960s, where music, style and wit reign supreme.

Seeking 4 men and 4 woman

Jack = a young eligible bachelor who leads a double life

Algernon = another young eligible bachelor who leads a double life

Lady Bracknell = Algernon's Aunt who is all about style over substance

Gwendolyn = Daughter of Lady Bracknell who has her own mind about things

Cecily = Jack's ward - she is imaginative and romantic

Miss Prism = Cecily's governess filled with moral righteousness

Doctor Chasuble = Moral on the outside, less so on the inside

Lane/Merrimen = A servant possibly leading a double-life
