Chicago Theatre Workshop
Gods & Monsters

Pay: Yes

Description:

London producer, Tarento Productions, in association with Chicago Theatre Workshop is seeking AEA and non-AEA actor submissions for our summer production of Gods & Monsters, directed by Russell Labey from the original London production. Please note that the role of James Whale has already been cast.

Seeking the following:
MARIA, 60's, Latin American, Female.
Whale's long-term, live-in maid, she is devoutly Catholic & disapproving but humane. She is deferential on duty but at turns benevolently maternal, possessive, protective, bossy or defensive with other staff/visitors and with Whale when ill health strikes. Classic servant becomes the master territory.

CLAYTON BOONE: 25, American, Male.
The yardman. An interesting journey here from uncommunicative, uncomfortable, monosyllabic, fish-out-of-water disdain and distrust to enlightened, compassionate, unlikely companion. Gradually he gains the confidence to reveal - both literally and metaphorically - what's being hidden. This is a guy who chugs a cup of tea in one gulp without ever using the teacup handle.

EDMUND KAY: Early 20's, American, Male.
Edmund is a film-student-fan of Whale's horror film genre - at a time when that was decidedly unfashionable - He reluctantly but stoically indulges the old man in a game of 'strip-poker interview', which takes some confidence and again, as time goes by, there's more to his character than initially revealed and all to easily dismissed by Whale. He's later revealed as ballsy, kind and insightful. The same actor plays, JAMES WHALE (1910) aged 18, English, metal factory worker and LEONARD BARNETT aged 18, English WWI Officer.

DR. PAYNE:late 20's early 30's, American, Male.
PAYNE is junior consultant neurologist and Ivy League graduate, professional/clinical medic who deals with Whale's flirtations with urbane good humour. In Whale's reminiscences the same actor plays, JOHN TOZER 25, English. Metal factory worker, Sunday painter & life-class model - fresh out of D H Lawrence and JAMES WHALE (1916) aged 24.

Auditions will be held at The Theatre School at DePaul University
