Progressive Village Performance Network
Guys and Dolls

Pay: No Pay

Description:

PVPN (Progressive Village Performance Network) presents auditions for the musical comedy - GUYS and DOLLS.

When Damon Runyon wrote his "Broadway Stories" that would later become Guys and Dolls, he was able to capture perfectly the variety of characters that inhabited a fast paced, hand to mouth, rough and tumble New York City. The characters in this play are hip, wise, funny and above all individuals. These people have been there and done that.

Our Team is looking for actors who really light up the stage, have great articulation and projection. We want a variety of ages and body types. Comedic timing is everything. Be bold! Stage-Age is how old you can look on the PVPN Stage, not how old you actually are.

Cast of Characters:
(You must be at least 17 years old on Jan. 1, 2018 to audition for this show.)

Nicely-Nicely Johnson: Stage age 30 to 50. Tenor to high B flat.
Audition song: Sit Down, You're, Rockin' the Boat. Best pal to Nathan Detroit and owner of the funniest lines in the play. Comedic timing a must. Size does not matter.

Benny Southstreet: Stage age 20 to 50. Baritone to high G.
Audition Song: Any of the men's choices. Nicely's pal. This guy really needs to sing.

Nathan Detroit: Stage age 35 to 50. Baritone to High F.
Audition Song: Any of the men's choices. This guy is both funny and romantic. Engaged to Adelaide for 14 years he is always looking for the big break he never seems to get. Comedic timing a must.

Sky Masterson: Stage age 30 to 50. Baritone B to E flat.
Audition Song: I've Never Been in Love Before. This guy is the coolest guy on the planet! Has a big story arch. Must go from, I don't need women to falling madly in love in the course of this show. Must be able to command that stage!

Arvide Abernathy: Stage age 55+.
Audition Song: Any of the men's choices. Older, wiser, leader of the Salvation Army in Times Square. Family to Sarah Brown.

Sarah Brown: Stage age 25 to 35. Soprano to High A.
Audition Song: I'll Know. This doll has the most to do in the entire show. Huge story arch where we see her play straight laced, tipsy, heartbroken and madly in love. Strong actress and singer.

Adelaide: Stage age 30 to 45. Mezzo to A.
Audition Song: Sue Me. Character and comedic timing. Articulation, articulation, articulation. I am not necessarily looking for the heavy accented comedy voice from the film. Engaged to Nathan for 14 years. Really loves him and we need it to show. Good dancer a plus, but a good "mover" will work.

Hot Box Girls: Looking for 8. Stage age 20 to 45. Good to Great Dancers
Audition Song: Any of the women's choices. In addition to the great Hot Box numbers, these dolls will play multiple roles in New York and Havana. Variety of ages in this chorus line. Bring it ladies! Make 'em drool!

Salvation Army Girls: Looking for 3. Stage age 25 to 70.
Audition Song: Any of the women's choices. In addition to the Salvation Army, these girls will play multiple parts in New York and Havana. General Cartwright will be chosen from this group.

Lt. Brannigan: Stage age 35+
Audition Song: Any of the men's choices. The coolest copper in the Big Apple. Must command respect from Nathan and the guys. Though not a featured singer or dancer, must go through the singing and dancing audition.

The Guys: Looking for 16. Stage ages 20 to 70. All voice ranges needed.
Audition Song: Any of the men's choices. These guys will make or break this show. A variety of voices, ages and types from which will come Angie the Ox, Rusty Charlie, Big Jule and the other characters from Damon Runyon's stories.
