Piccolo Theatre

Hansel and Gretel

Category: Non-Equity Audition
Pay: $250+

"Hansel and Gretel" is an original script with songs, inspired by the Grimm Brothers fairy tale. The format is Piccolo's version of an English pantomime with loads of humor, audience interaction, and fun for all ages. (Think "Shrek" or "Aladdin" rather than shows just for kids.) Actors should be adept at physical and verbal comedy. All should move well and be able to carry a tune.

Gretel - Feisty, often looks before she leaps. Some dance experience preferred.

Mother - Overworked mother of H&G. A strong-willed fighter even when faced with the loss of her children.

Baba Clava - Owner of the Gingerbread house. Delightfully evil.

Hansel -Terrified of everything but finds his strength by the end.

Gerald - An inept wolf hunter who also serves as a troubadour. Actor needs to be able to play a hand-held string instrument (mandolin, ukulele, lute, etc...)

Baba Ganoush -Oldest of the three witches, holds to traditions by always speaking in rhyme and carrying a wand. Actor needs experience with verse work.

Baba O'Reilly - Youngest of the three witches. Think "Mean Girl" attitude and reliance on modern technology.

The role of MOTHER NATURE ("The Dame") has been cast.
