Blue Goose Theatre Ensemble seeks submissions for their upcoming devised production, SWEET SIXTEEN EXTRAVAGANZA!!!.
Harmony, a former star of the child beauty pageant circuit, celebrates her "coming-of-age" amid "loving" family and, uh, "friends." When a stranger arrives on the compound of her super-farmer father, the birthday girl is rocked by nightmarish visions, and her glitzy worldview is shaken to its rhinestone-studded core.
In a Golden Age of Television still ruled by the toxic male gaze, Blue Goose Theatre Ensemble will draw from such diverse texts as Oscar Wilde's Salome, True Detective (season 1, of course), and Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, to create a blackly comic piece exploring the blurred line between art and pornography. SWEET SIXTEEN EXTRAVAGANZA!!! asks: when exploitation and empowerment look eerily similar, how old is too old to wear a tiara?
A portion of proceeds from this production will benefit a thematically relevant charitable group or organization.
We are seeking a diverse cast of actors with a passion and background in any mixture of improvisation, physical theatre, heightened text, playwriting, music, dance, pop culture, stage magic, and especially, ensemble-devised work. All ages, ethnicities, and abilities are encouraged to submit. Please note that this piece may contain a sexualized pageant routine. An intimacy designer will be part of all physical contact between actors.
We are casting for the following nine characters/types:
HARMONY - a teenager and former child pageant star, female-identifying
THE SISTER - 20s, female-identifying or non-binary
THE MOTHER - 40s, female-identifying
THE MASTER OF THE HOUSE - 40s, male-identifying
THE INTRUDER - any age, male-identifying
THE SUITOR - 20s, male-identifying
THE ASSISTANT - any age, male- or female-identifying or non-binary
GUARD 1 - any age, male- or female-identifying or non-binary

As this is a devised project with a strong focus on ensemble-created work, it is important for actors to be able to attend as many rehearsals as possible.
Material To Prepare:
Please submit your headshot, resume, and prepare a 1 to 2 minute heightened monologue. Please also be prepared to complete a devising exercise based on a prompt to be given at auditions--maybe bring a pencil and paper? :-)
